Gemeinsam lernen im EFG-Sprachen-Dorf: Learning English the Fun Way
10.06.2026On 1st June 2026, the year 10 students organised a Sprachendorf for the year 6 classes:
The aim of the project was to help younger and the older students to improve their English by using it in realistic everyday situations instead of only in the classroom. Together with several English teachers, we created different stations where students could practise speaking English in a fun and interactive way.
The Sprachendorf consisted of six main stations and an extra small-talk station. These stations represented real-life situations such as an airport, a café, a doctor’s office, a flea market, a tourist information centre and a sports shop. At each station, students had to communicate in English and complete different tasks.
One of the most popular stations was the airport.
Students checked in for flights, spoke to airport staff in costume and experienced a realistic travel situation. At the tourist information centre, they used information cards to answer visitors’questions and give directions. The flea market was also very popular because students could practise to buy second-hand items and asking for discounts.
Many students especially enjoyed the café, where they ordered food and drinks and acted out everyday conversations. The doctor’s office led to many funny moments because students invented unusual symptoms and discussed possible treatments. At the small-talk station, students practised starting and continuing conversations, which helped them become more confident when speaking English.
Before the event, we planned realistic dialogues.
The year 6 students received worksheets and visited the stations in small groups throughout the day. Different groups arrived at different times, teachers and older students supported the activities and motivate everyone to speak as much English as possible.
Overall, the Sprachendorf was a successful and enjoyable experience for everyone. It helped students improve their vocabulary, develop their speaking skills and gain confidence in using English in everyday situations. We hope to continue this project in the future because it showed that learning a language can be enjoyable.
